Matthew 21:28–32
At that time, Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
“What do you think? A man had two sons. He approached the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’
He answered, ‘I will not.’ But afterward, he reconsidered and went.
Then the father approached the second son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘Yes, sir, I will go.’ But he did not go.
Which of the two did his father's will?”
They answered, “The first.”
Jesus said to them:
“Amen, I say to you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
For John came to you showing you the way of righteousness, but you did not believe him. Yet tax collectors and prostitutes believed him.
Even after seeing this, you did not change your minds and believe him.”

Commentary
The word reconsider appears both in the first reading and in the Gospel. A wicked person can reconsider their actions and save their life.
Taking time to reflect and reconsider is especially necessary today.
It is sad when politicians, singers, and celebrities claim that they have nothing to regret. Former politicians are interviewed, and they say that they have nothing to be sorry for.
This shows that humanity is losing the ability to reflect and think more deeply about its actions.
No human being who sincerely examines their life can honestly say, “I have done everything right.”
To say such a thing implies that there is no better way to do things. What arrogance!
Clearly, there are better ways to think, act, and make decisions.
Before it is too late, we can reconsider our actions, listen once again to the voice of God, and allow ourselves to be guided by His Spirit.
Questions for Discussion and Reflection
Do I know how to pause and reflect on my life?
Do I acknowledge my mistakes, or do I always try to justify myself?
Do I believe that I can still learn to do things better?
